Spend the next four days on a safari in Taita Hills and Tsavo West National Parks with a views of mountains in the distance as well as cape buffalo, zebra and elephant surrounding watering holes from the comfort of your lodge.

If that wasn’t enough, you’ll fly from Tsavo West National Park to the Masai Mara. Experience the epic Ashnil tented camp on the banks of the Mara River during the great migration of wildebeest and Zebra, which will also be seen during your awe-inspiring safari. You will feel as if you’re in a real-life wildlife documentary.

When you arrive at the Nairobi International airport, you will be greeted by your driver/guide and given a very warm welcome to Kenya. You will transport to your first night’s luxury accommodation at The Boma Hotel. This grand hotel is equipped with all the requirements you’ll need for a pleasurable and satisfying rest and is located close to Nairobi International Airport.

It is expected that you will need to recuperate from the flight hence there are no scheduled activities for the first afternoon/evening so that you have sufficient time to recuperate. You can take advantage of the many conveniences at the hotel to help unwind. Whether you choose to relish a massage at the spa. Unwind by the swimming pool or have a drink at the bar, you can be sure that you have a pleasurable resting experience.

Dinner is not included in the plan, hence you will be paying for dinner from your pocket. For dinner, there are many options you can explore. You could decide to eat in the Boma’s inhouse restaurant the Johari, you could take a taxi or uber to find a fantastic restaurant in Nairobi or relax in your room and enjoy room service which is available 24 hours or even order uber eats.

Nairobi 

After a delicious buffet breakfast, at approximately 7:00 am your driver will pick you up from The Boma Hotel. First is a morning game drive at Nairobi National Park. This unique wildlife sanctuary is the only National Park in the world located in a capital city. Despite being located on the edge of Nairobi’s bustling city center; many different species of mammals are found in the park.

 

Of the big 5 only elephants are absent from this park. There is a large number of both black and white rhino which are both rare to see in most African national parks. Also found in this park is an abundance of Cape Buffalo, Zebra, Masai Giraffe and Ostrich. Lion’s can also be seen sometimes posing on stone blocks scouting the plains for prey.

 

Some of the less common animals found in Nairobi National Park include leopard, serval cats, black backed jackals, hippopotamus and very rarely cheetah and hyena can be found here.

At 10:30 transfer to the David Sheldrick Elephant Orphanage. Here spend 1 hour watching at photograph rescued baby elephants receive their morning feeding and play in the mud pools. A handler will give a speech on the elephants and the story behind each calf’s rescue, as well as the history of the Elephant Orphanage.

12pm take a short drive to Nairobi Giraffe Centre. Here you get a chance to see the endangered Rothschild giraffes up close and even hand feed them on the platform or from ground level. There is also a teahouse where you can relax and have a drink while watching the giraffes, and a large souvenir shop. All proceeds at the Giraffe Centre go to charities which either help conservation or the underprivileged.

1:00 pm return to the Boma Hotel. Your afternoon can be spent how you wish. You may like to relax at the hotel or take a taxi out and explore Nairobi before tomorrow’s drive to Taita Hills.

Taita Hills

 

After an early morning complementary buffet breakfast at our hotel your driver will collect you and will drive to the beautiful Taita Hills. A conservancy which is Park of Tsavo East National Park.

With a few short stops along the way you will drive along the Mombasa highway which separates Tsavo East from Tsavo West Arriving at Salt lick Lodge in time for lunch. The restaurant and rooms are overlooking an extremely busy waterhole this time of year.

As July to October is dry season in Kenya you can expect the waterhole to be extremely busy almost 24/7. Especially with elephants, zebra and Cape Buffalo which have large herds all over Taita Hills. There are four viewing decks as well as an underground hide at the edge of the waterhole. Salt lick lodge is built on stilts giving you great views of the savannah from the comfort of your room. At 4:00pm to 6:30pm we go on a game drive around Taita Hills. Though you may wish to stay at the lodge as the waterhole will likely be busy.

Taita Hills

 

After breakfast, depart for a morning game drive at 8:00am. Taita Hills is home to large herds of elephant and Cape Buffalo as well as lion, leopard, masai giraffe, waterbuck, baboons, zebra and much more. This time of year, there is very little water around with the exception of the water hole at our lodge. Therefore, we likely won’t need to stray too far from our lodge to see Africa’s Wildlife.

 

Around midday we return to our lodge for lunch and some spare time. It will be hot so you may wish to transfer to Sarova’s nearby Taita Hills Lodge for a swim in the pool or stay at Salt Lick Lodge and keep a watchful eye on the waterhole from your room, the underground hide or one of the four viewing decks as animals will likely be coming in for a drink.

 

At 4:00PM to 6:30PM take an afternoon game drive. However, you may wish to stay at the lodge as the waterhole will likely get busy.

 Tsavo West

After breakfast take a roughly a four-hour drive to the beautiful and unique Tsavo West National Park. Arriving at the incredible Kilaguni Serena Safari Lodge which was the first safari lodge ever built in a Kenyan National Park. At midday this amazing lodge will provide a buffet lunch at the inhouse restaurant. This restaurant overlooks a busy waterhole with Africa’s tallest mountain Mount Kilimanjaro in the distance. With luck large herds of elephant, zebra or cape buffalo and much more plains game come for a drink while enjoying lunch.

At 3:00pm take a safari in Tsavo West in search for elephant, cape buffalo, lion, leopard, cheetah, warthog, zebra and much more. However, this in enroute to visit the nearby Tsavo West Rhino sanctuary to see and learn about these incredible animals. Even if you don’t find rhinoceros in the sanctuary, there still is an abundance of all Tsavo’s animals such as giraffe, cape buffalo, even lions and leopards.

 

At 6:30 return to Kilaguni Lodge for dinner. Enjoy your evening relaxing at the lodge. You may wish to have a drink at the bar or relax on your private balcony, both which look over the watering hole which usually stays busy all night long, with regular visits from elephant, hyena and lions.

Tsavo West

Spend the morning on a game drive from 8am – 11:30 in search for the beautiful and unique animals of Tsavo. Tsavo West hosts an abundance of dik-dik, which is Africa’s smallest antelope species with adults standing just 35cm tall. Another rare species which is abundantly found in Tsavo West is the Beisa Oryx, a beautiful yet endangered antelope species.

Returning to our lodge at midday for lunch and spend the early afternoon relaxing, swimming in the pool and enjoying watching the wildlife come to the nearby waterhole.

There will be no afternoon game drive as your driver will depart to meet you the following day in the Masai Mara, however there will be plenty of wildlife (especially elephants) at the lodges waterhole.

WHAT’S INCLUDED

Masai Mara

 

After breakfast Kilaguni Lodge will transfer to the nearby airstrip. To save yourself from a 11 hour drive you will take roughly a 1 hour flight via light aircraft to the famous Masai Mara National Park. Arriving around noon your driver will pick you up from the Keekorock airstrip and transfer to our next accommodation Ashnil Tented Camp.

 

The Masai Mara is one of Africa’s best known national parks. Infact, it has had more wildlife documentaries filmed here than anywhere else in the world. Arrive and have a late lunch at 2017 travel award winning Ashnil Tented Camp. a stunning 5-star tented camp located on the Mara River. Later take an afternoon game drive between 4:00 and 6:30. Later, return enjoy dinner, drinks and cultural masai dances.

Masai Mara

 

The Masai Mara is filled with wildlife which we search for over the next two days. Also this particular area has large clans of hyena’s and with approximately 36 prides of lion the Masai Mara is arguably the best place to see lions in the wild. The Talek and Mara rivers have many pods if hippopotamus and are home to the largest nile crocodiles in Africa.

All of Africa’s big 5 are found here. Unfortunately, there are not as many elephants as Tsavo, However, there are a lot more lions and cheetah which we will likely see every day. There is also a very high density of zebra, wildebeest, topi, Thompsons gazelle, masai giraffe, hartebeest, warthog and much more.

We recommend take a full day game drive from 8:00am until 4:00pm with a picnic lunch on your first full day. On the second full day game drives between 8:00am to 12:00pm and 3:30pm to 6:30pm. However you can plan your safari times with your driver as they are flexible.

For an unforgettable experience, you may wish to start your morning with a hot air balloon ride over the Masai Mara savannah. This is at sunrise followed by a champagne bush breakfast in the heart of the savannah (price not included in tour).

WHAT’S INCLUDED

Lake Naivasha

 

After breakfast, depart the Masai Mara and drive into the Great Rift Valley arriving at Lake Naivasha Enashapai Resort in time for lunch. Enashapai is a multi-award winning resort and spa. The afternoon can be spent however you choose whether it be at the lodge or enjoying some outdoor activities at your own expense such as golf, birding or biking. Enashpai Resort has an amazing 5-star restaurant the Senteu Restaurant as well as a coffee lounge, two bars and even a nightclub.  If you are up for an excursion, at reception you can book several activities at your own expense including fishing, nature walks, birding and boat rides in lake Naivasha.  You may even wish to relax at the spa or get a workout at the gym.

Today is the last day of the tour. After some rest and a buffet breakfast at Enashapai Resort we have transfer to Nairobi to a local restaurant for lunch and transfers to Nairobi’s international airport.

If you wish for an extension, you may wish to add extra an extra day exploring Nairobi or even add Lake Nakuru or Ol Pejeta Conservancy to this tour.

Frequently Asked Questions

You can bring children on your safari tour of Kenya, however I recommend my tours for children aged 12 and over, due to the long days and unfamiliar conditions.

We recommend you bring the following on your tour: 

  • Strong, non-slip walking shoes
  • Hat (wide-brimmed is best)
  • Flynet
  • Sunglasses
  • Sunscreen
  • Camera
  • Casual and comfortable clothing

We have a maximum of 9 people on the tour. You will travel in a comfortable air-conditioned vehicle.

We are able to cater for one of the following special dietary requests upon request at time of booking: vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free or dairy-free. 

If you have a food allergy (e.g. peanuts), please advise at the time of booking and carry any necessary medication with you on tour.

The longest you can expect to walk for on this African safari tour is 2 hours per walk, at a relaxed pace.

Meals are included but drinks and tips are not. You can pay for drinks with a credit card or cash in most locations.

Your safety is a top priority. All parks are guarded at entry and exit points. In terms of being safe near animals, you will be reminded never to leave a vehicle while on game drives. All accommodation is protected with electric fences and very safe.
