Masai Mara

After an incredible experience enjoying the breathtaking Amboseli, we embark on the next leg of our adventure by flying to the renowned Masai Mara.

Following a satisfying breakfast, we make our way to Amboseli airstrip for a seamless transfer. Instead of enduring an arduous 11-hour drive, we opt for a much more efficient option—a short one-hour flight aboard a light aircraft to the famous Masai Mara National Park. By noon, we touch down and are greeted by our drivers who will transport us to our next accommodation, Masai Mara Sopa Lodge.

The Masai Mara holds the distinction of being one of Africa’s most iconic national parks, having served as the backdrop for numerous wildlife documentaries. As we arrive, we savor a delightful late lunch at Mara Sopa Lodge. Situated in the heart of the Masi Mara, this stunning lodge offers a unique and luxurious experience.

In the afternoon, we embark on a thrilling Masai Mara safari game drive from 4:00 to 6:30, immersing ourselves in the awe-inspiring beauty and wildlife of the Masai Mara. Later, we return to the camp to relish a sumptuous dinner, accompanied by refreshing drinks. As the night unfolds, we have the opportunity to witness captivating cultural Masai dances, adding a touch of traditional charm to our unforgettable experience.

Masai Mara

Over the next three days, our exploration of the Masai Mara is brimming with wildlife encounters. With approximately 36 prides of lions, the Masai Mara undeniably offers one of the best opportunities to witness these majestic creatures in their natural habitat. It’s almost guaranteed that lions will grace our presence on every Masai Mara safari. Additionally, cheetahs frequently grace the open plains, showcasing their hunting prowess.

The Mara and Talek rivers boast thriving populations of hippopotamuses, with numerous pods dotting the waterways. Moreover, they serve as home to Africa’s largest Nile crocodiles. Within the Masai Mara, we have the privilege of encountering all members of Africa’s illustrious big five—lion, leopard, elephant, buffalo, and rhinoceros. Additionally, the plains teem with zebra, wildebeest, topi, Thompson’s gazelle, Masai giraffe, hartebeest, and a rich diversity of other wildlife.

Over the next three days, we have the flexibility to design our game drives according to our preferences. We can opt for full-day excursions, commencing at 8:00 AM and lasting until 4:00 PM, complete with a packed lunch. Alternatively, we can split our game drives into morning and afternoon sessions, returning to the comfort of Mara Sopa Lodge for meals in between. The choice is ours to make as we immerse ourselves in the captivating wonders of the Masai Mara.

Nairobi

After a delicious buffet breakfast, at approximately 7:00 am our drivers will pick us up from The Boma Hotel and depart for a morning game drive at Nairobi National Park. This unique wildlife sanctuary is the only National Park in the world located in a capital city.

Despite being located on the edge of Nairobi’s bustling city centre, many different species of mammals are found in the park. Of the big 5 only elephants are absent from this park. There is a large number of both black and white rhino which are both rare to see in most African national parks. Also found in this park is an abundance of Cape Buffalo, Zebra, Masai Giraffe and Ostrich. Lion’s can also be seen sometimes posing on stone blocks scouting the plains for prey. Some of the less common animals found in Nairobi National Park include leopard, serval cats, black backed jackals, hippopotamus and very rarely cheetah and hyena can be found here.

At 10:30 we will transfer to the David Sheldrick Elephant Orphanage. Here we will spend 1 hour watching at photograph rescued baby elephants receive their morning feeding and play in the mud pools. A handler will give a speech on the elephants and the story behind each calf’s rescue, as well as the history of the Elephant Orphanage.

At 12pm we take a short drive to Nairobi Giraffe Centre. Here you get a chance to see the endangered Rothschild giraffes up close and even hand feed them on the platform or from ground level. There is also a teahouse where you can relax and have a drink while watching the giraffes, and a large souvenir shop. All proceeds at the Giraffe Centre go to charities which either help conservation or the underprivileged. At 1:30pm we transfer to a nearby restaurant for lunch before returning to Nairobi International airport for departure. This concludes our amazing Amboseli & Masai Mara safari.
